Laird Station

Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto ON

The STEPS Initiative has collaborated with Crosslinx Transit Solutions, the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office, and lead artist Curtia Wright along with youth from the Thorncliffe and Flemingdon Park communities to facilitate the creation of this 128 sq.ft. mural on the construction hoarding surrounding the site of the future Laird Eglinton Crosstown Station.

The work’s design reflects insights that were shared by local young people about their neighbourhood, including local landmarks and memories. The mural was designed and developed through a program series, where youth were invited to reflect on their own experiences of their community.

This playful piece features a rainbow of colours that harmonize the community members depicted within, as well as reflect the area’s diversity. The work highlights the area’s abundant access to nature, as well as pays homage to local landmarks, including the future Crosstown train.
