Marina is a Russian-Canadian visual artist and illustrator based in Toronto who holds a BFA in Painting from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. In her figurative paintings, she mainly uses oil paint on canvas and ceramic tiles. In the past few years she has started to take her work outside of her studio walls with a focus on mural art. Marina feels lucky to work with talented artists, assisting them in painting murals. She has also completed several mural projects as a lead artist. In her recent project, she worked on 11ft x 25ft mural during the Artist Project Art Fair 2018.
The majority of my work revolves around people and spaces, as I investigate themes of personal identity, human behaviour, duality and shifting perceptions. In my paintings, I draw my inspirations from everyday life and memories. In my creative process, I experiment with photographs that I take as well as images from found sources. I tend to explore familiar imagery, suggesting a subtle transition from one narrative to another.
