Marina is a Russian-Canadian visual artist based in Toronto ON, she holds a BFA in Painting from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver BC. In her figurative paintings she mainly uses oil and acrylic on canvas and wood. In the last several years she has been taking her work outside of the studio walls with a focus on murals and public art. Marina completed a number of indoor and outdoor murals among them OTB and Bell Box Murals projects. In addition she has been collaborating with local art school to work on installations for public schools.
The majority of my work revolves around people and spaces, as I investigate themes of personal identity, human behaviour, duality and shifting perceptions. In my paintings, I draw my inspirations from everyday life and memories. In my creative process, I experiment with photographs that I take as well as images from found sources. I tend to explore familiar imagery, suggesting a subtle transition from one narrative to another.
