Colin W Davis is a graduate of Sheridan College's Bachelor of Applied Arts program in Illustration. In his final year of college he was approached by Pentimento Gallery to intern and manage their online presence. Through this immersive introduction to Toronto's fine art world, Colin developed an appreciation and understanding of the contemporary gallery scene.
Since re-focusing away from illustration into fine art, Colin has shown in numerous Toronto galleries including Project Gallery, Pentimento Gallery, Awol Gallery, Propeller Gallery and the First Canadian Place Gallery.
Colin has studied with American Realist painter Max Ginsberg at The Art Students League of New York and attributes much of his painting style to that of the contemporary master painter.
Colin lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
My paintings are moody, surreal still-lifes in which the subject is presented in a slightly unnatural way in order to allow for a better appreciation for its natural beauty. The flora depicted is referencing my immediate environment, but rather than being painted as it exists in real life, it is presented as if viewed through a jumbled memory. This is meant to represent my childhood immersed in the natural world and the yearning as an adult living in a city to once again experience that feeling.
